This can be charged before the trip straight from a mains socket by means of a battery charger. Hence the designation of the vehicle as a “plug-in hybrid”. By comparison with an internal-combustion engine, the plug-in hybrid reduces both fuel consumption and CO2 output by an average of 50%. POWERTRAIN OPTIONS AND AVAILABILITY
Only one powertrain is available in regular XLR coupes: a 320-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 engine, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. For 2006, Cadillac launched an XLR-V edition with a supercharged 443-horsepower V8 and six-speed automatic.
